Holiday Travel Tips from PIA

Peoria, IL—The General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport (PIA) is pleased to provide travelers with the following tips for flying during this busy holiday season:

  • ARRIVE EARLY

Arriving at the Peoria International Airport at least 90 minutes prior to departure is highly recommended. The terminal building opens daily at 4:30 a.m. All carriers operating out of PIA require travelers to have their boarding pass and luggage checked in at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Following check-in passengers should immediately proceed to the security checkpoint. Airlines require travelers to be at their gates at least 20 minutes prior to departure.

  • PACKING RECOMMENDATIONS

Travelers should check the airline’s web page and tsa.gov for advice on what can go in carry-on baggage. Please do not wrap gifts. Security may require unwrapping of any packages prior to boarding.

  • PARKING

Parking is free in the main parking lot; however at this busy time, travelers may need additional time to find a vacant parking spot. Check the “Additional Parking” lot, which has 350 new parking spaces that are closer to the terminal. A shuttle bus will be operating a full schedule during the holidays. Please allow enough driving time since airlines operate a strict schedule and will not allow late passengers to board. Cars cannot be left at the curb side unattended.

  • USE TECHNOLOGY

Carrier’s websites should be utilized to confirm flight times and print boarding passes before heading to the airport. This is a significant time-saver, especially when traveling with a group. Passengers who are checking in luggage must go to the airline ticket counter. Many airlines provide automatic notification systems (text messaging, emails, and/or voice messaging) and can provide information about potential problems in flight schedules.

Visit www.flypia.com for schedule and general airline information and www.tsa.gov for packing advice and security information. Travelers should contact air carriers directly with specific questions:
