Greater Peoria Regional Airport Garners Double Digit Increase in Passengers; Six Months In a Row!
Greater Peoria Regional Airport has seen astounding growth in the number of passengers traveling through the airport. The latest Operations Report shows what everyone already knew. Airfares continue to stay low, while passenger traffic continues to increase. In the past six months, the GPRA has shown a larger increase in passengers than any other downstate airport.
In March, GPRA increased its number of passengers by 19%, April jumped 25%, May was up 23%, June and July were each up 24%, and in August an astounding 32% increase!
"The community has been showing its support and it's reflecting in our numbers," said Jerry Flaherty, Chairman of the Greater Peoria Airport Authority Board. "I think we're seeing a lot of new passengers because of our lower fares but, they're coming back because of the convenience, free parking and great customer service we provide," stated Solomon Balraj, Director of Airports. "We've done a lot of work to improve the GPRA; including adding two new destinations (Las Vegas and Dallas/Fort Worth), a new parking lot and shuttle bus, a second check point line to alleviate long lines and a more aggressive marketing strategy. We plan to continue to add amenities for our passengers. We are in the process of adding a new flight display monitor system, revamping our website and of course, we are working hard to bring new destinations and more flights to the airport," he added.
