Discover Peoria
Located in the heart of the Midwest, Peoria has all the perks of a big city, but with a small town sweetness.
Enjoy Broadway’s biggest touring hits at the Peoria Civic Center, the largest event facility outside of Chicago, or explore the Peoria Riverfront Museum, home to permanent and traveling Smithsonian exhibits, as well as a dome planetarium and giant screen theater. Tour the Caterpillar Visitors Center and take a virtual ride in a real two-and-a-half story Caterpillar mining truck. Up close, it’s immense.
Trek out into nature and visit Wildlife Prairie Park, unique to the Midwest with native animals in their natural habitat—480 acres of it. The park also boasts miles of rugged yet well-maintained hiking and biking trails, one of the reasons Peoria made National Geographic’s Top 100 Adventure Towns.
Step back into time with a relaxing ride on the Spirit of Peoria, a historic paddlewheel boat, or try your luck on the Par-A-Dice Casino riverboat. Or don’t leave dry land, but enjoy one of Peoria’s festivals or summer concerts along the riverfront.
Other top area attractions and activities include: Peoria Playhouse Children’s Museum, Peoria Zoo, Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park, Starved Rock State Park, Dickson Mounds Museum, Sail Peoria and, of course, a variety of shopping and dining destinations.
