Mine Grout Mitigation – May 28 – August 30, 2024

PLAN AHEAD: Airport Roads will be open, but lanes sidewalks may be shut down for construction.

Important Information to Know:

The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria will close a lane of their main circle airport drive near the current Air Traffic Control Tower and Byerly Aviation. One lane will remain open as a passenger exit lane. This will begin on May 28.
The sidewalks running from Byerly Aviation to PIA terminal will be closed during this construction. Passengers should cross at the cross walk at Byerly, walk along the outside of the construction in the parking lot, and cross back over at the cross walk to the East of the existing Air Traffic Control Tower.
The Detour includes Dirksen Parkway, PIA Circle/Main Drive, PIA Main Parking Lot and Sidewalks.

Plan Ahead: Plan time to navigate the detours of the parking lot and find an appropriate spot.

Airport Road at 474 – Expected Completion October 2025

Plan Ahead: Traffic Flow Changes and construction updates may change daily without notice.

Important Information to Know:

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced construction on Airport Road at Interstate 474 (exit 5) near Bartonville, which began on March 11.
The work is to prepare for the future replacement of the Airport Road Ramps at I-474 to One Lane.
On May 28 beginning at 10pm, the eastbound lanes will be closed until 5:30am May 29.
On May 29 beginning at 10pm, the eastbound lanes will once again be closed until 5:30am May 30.
On May 30 beginning at 10pm, the westbound lanes will close until 5:30am May 31. The entrance ramp from Airport Road to westbound I-474 will close at 9pm; however, the exit ramp from westbound I-474 will remain open.
On May 31 beginning at 10pm, the westbound lanes will close until 5:30am June 1st. The entrance ramp from Airport Road to westbound I-474 will remain open.
Motorists should expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in work zones, obey the posted speed limits.

Maxwell Road Closure – Expected Completion November 2024

Plan Ahead: Detour will be needed!

Important Information to Know:

The Peoria County Highway Department will close a section of Maxwell Road for bridge rehabilitation and new pavement construction, which began April 1.
The closure is between IL Rte 116 (Plank Road) and Fauber Road in Bellevue.
The Detour includes Dirksen Parkway, South Airport Road, Smithville Road and South Cameron Lane, due to the IDOT’s rehabilitation and construction of Airport Road and Interstate 474 bridge.
